Kali-Kalisu

Kali-Kalisu is an arts-based teacher training programme for government school teachers across the length and breadth of Karnataka. The Kannada words “Kali-Kalisu” translate as “learn and teach," and serve to remind teachers that education is a lifelong quest, that learning and teaching happen side by side, and that the joy of learning stems from the joy of teaching.

Kali-Kalisu is a joint project of India Foundation for the Arts and Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan, Bangalore. 

Training

One major success for the programme has been securing a long-term engagement with Department of State Education and Research Training (DSERT) that began with creating an Arts Education syllabus for the Diploma in Education (D.Ed.) teacher training programme. We were appointed for implementing the new Arts Education syllabus for teacher educators at District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) colleges, and for articulating two position papers for the D.Ed. curriculum review.

We have conducted Master Resource Persons (MRP) training programmes across the State, covering 17 districts in South Karnataka (DSERT, Bangalore) in the first phase and 17 in North Karnataka (Kudalasangama, Bagalkot) in the second.

Grants

IFA makes grants to artists and Government school teachers for projects in Government schools under its Arts Education programme. This is an extension of our work under the Kali-Kalisu project.
