Kali Kalisu | The Film

This film brings you highlights across the breadth of the Arts Education programme called Kali Kalisu (‘Learn and Teach’). It showcases the significant impact of the IFA programme in bringing alive government schools across Karnataka and enriching the lives of the students and the school community. It gives a glimpse into how children respond to and engage with the arts with the aid and support of multiple stakeholders—teachers, artists, institutions and the school environment at large. Teachers realise the importance of arts education as a tool to unleash their students’ potential as creative practitioners that extends beyond the walls of the classroom.

Through the introduction of vibrant local art forms and the involvement of local artists and the community, these children are able to express themselves and bring in their own experiences. How do these children begin to confront or overcome barriers of caste or early marriage? How do they become critical thinkers? How do teachers and artists become a network of support for students in rural schools across Karnataka? This film attempts to capture the power of art and the meaningful ways in which Kali Kalisu brings teachers, artists and students together to learn and teach—from each other.
