Project Period: Eight months

For the implementation of a Foundation Project by IFA under Explorations that will delve into involving Chhau dancers in contemporary theatre towards the making of a devised theatrical production. The outcome of the project will be the playscript in Hindi and the pre-production process of the devised theatrical production. The Project Coordinator’s deliverables to IFA with the final report will be the playscript, and the audio-visual documentation of the artistic process of the devised piece. Project funds will pay for contract fees, and travel and living.

Grant Period: One year and six months

For a feature-length documentary film on the history of Santhali cinema. The project will look at the impact cinema has had on the cultural landscape of Santhals across Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal.  It aims to study the impact of affordable digital technology on the Santhali film industry, democratising film as a medium, thus affecting storytelling in cinema, and mass production and consumption of content. The outcome of this project will be a feature-length documentary film. The Grantee’s deliverables to IFA with the final reports will be the feature-length documentary film. Grant funds will pay for professional fees, travel, food and living costs, equipment rental, books and stationery costs and an accountant’s fee.

Grant Period: Over two months

For a two-day national conference on contemporary Dalit/Adivasi theatre in India. The conference will review the historical development of the Dalit/Adivasi theatre movement, study its conceptual underpinnings, investigate its existing forms of expression and critically reflect on its relationship to other performance practices in India. The conference also aims to strengthen networks among Dalit/Adivasi theatre artists and outline possible actions to support their work.

For making Recording Guiya, a documentary film that will explore the conditions that contributed to the unprecedented success of Guiya, an audio cassette released in the mid-1990s in Jharkhand. The film will examine the current state of popular music and the future of oral traditions.
