Nikita Teresa Sarkar
Grant Period: Five months
Nikita Teresa Sarkar is an artist, and a graduate in Theatre Design and Direction from the National School of Drama. She has a deep interest in ecology, sustainable designs, up-cycling; and her more recent work has been engaging in site-specific interventions.
Nikita is a resident of Kammanahalli and is interested in the ecology of the neighbourhood and exploring the birds that inhabit the area. She intends to create five bird playgrounds across five parks in Kammanahalli using natural material to attract birds back to the neighbourhood. She has planned a range of activities to engage residents with this process. These include placing placards across these parks inviting residents to leave grains for the birds and to come experience the presence of the birds. She will also create an information board about the birds seen in the area in various seasons. She will organise bird concerts at dawn and dusk; and engage with children in the neighbourhood in origami workshops exploring the variety of birds. Nikita will also encourage residents to take videos or photos of birds they see around them and share them with their personal impressions and reflections. She will then attempt to weave this into a short film.
Through this grant, Nikita wishes to build awareness among residents of the neighbourhood about their environs and encourage their accountability towards it. The project’s deliverables to IFA will be photo-documentation of the process and artistic interventions, and the film.
