Gundurao Desai, an Assistant Teacher of the Government Higher Primary School at Maski, Raichur District, is one of most appreciated teachers in the region. He is working towards upgrading the facilities of the school by reaching out to the government and to individual donors for support. At a personal level he has kept himself updated on the developments in literature and theatre in the region. He regularly contributes on various topics to many popular Kannada magazines.
This grant is towards a series of workshops built around creative writing anchored in the short stories of Jnanapith Awardee Masti Venkatesha Iyengar. The aim is to introduce seventh grade students to the world of short stories, encourage them to read and interpret these stories and then narrate their own stories by writing them. The activities that students will engage in will enable them to understand the major features of short stories and develop their language skills, cultural awareness, critical thinking and creativity. By the end of the project, learners are expected to create their own narratives and write their stories.
The outcome of the grant will be a publication. The Grantee's deliverables to IFA with the Final Report will include photographs from the workshops, and the publication.
