Grant Period: One year and six months

Gangappa S L, Assistant Teacher, Government Higher Primary School, Alkeri Gauliwada, Uttara Kannada District, has a rich experience in teaching for the past 15 years. He works towards building the strength of analytical thinking in his Marathi/ Kannada speaking students by encouraging participatory methods in his classrooms.

This project is a partnership between the community at Alkeri Gauliwada from where the students come and the school. Gangappa will conduct a series of workshops that will enable the students to develop and an appreciation for literary practices and encourage them to write. The students will attempt to document the narratives of their own nomadic community and its migration across borders. By documenting stories and interviews of the community members, this project also aims to explore various aspects of identity, belonging, discrimination, self-expression, and legacy.

The outcome of this grant will be a publication. The Grantee's deliverables to IFA with the Final Report will include photographs from the workshops and the publication.
