We are happy to invite applications for the position of Programme Officer – Arts Practice programme. This role will report to the Executive Director (ED).

IFA is an independent, nationwide, not-for-profit, organisation that makes grants and implements projects across practice, research and education in the arts and culture in India. Set up as a Public Charitable Trust in 1993, IFA started making grants and implementing projects in 1995. Since then, we have supported and implemented over 750 projects disbursing over Rs 36.51 crore across the country. 

Job Description:

The Arts Practice programme encourages practitioners working across artistic disciplines to question and critique existing norms through their practice. The programme seeks to foreground a culture where arts practice is constantly being shaped and articulated through experimentation and critical dialogue. The candidate will be required to develop and evaluate artistic proposals, oversee management of projects, build relevant collaborations and partnerships, organise outreach of programmes and showcase project outcomes with special focus on non-metropolitan areas.

Additionally, the candidate will also be required to look after a part of the Project 560 programme which attempts to explore the city of Bangalore through various artistic and scholarly public interventions and events. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build, implement and review annual plans for the Arts Practice and part of the Project 560 programmes in consultation with the ED.
  • Disseminate information about the programmes at regular intervals - nationally for the Arts Practice programme, and within Bangalore for Project 560
  • Engage with the field and respond to enquiries
  • Help artists and curators, scholars and researchers in developing their projects; facilitate translations, wherever required. 
  • Evaluate proposals for projects internally as well as work with external evaluators 
  • Provide intellectual, creative and logistical support to selected projects and review them at regular intervals
  • Implement projects and review them in a timely manner
  • Write programme and project related plans, notes, reports and updates as required
  • Ensure timely submission of deliverables and reports by Project Coordinators in compliance with institutional standards
  • Explore collaborations with partner organisations, organise outreach activities of projects implemented by IFA across the country
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure smooth functioning of institutional processes
  • Shoulder other programmatic and institutional responsibilities when required 

Eligibility:

  • Post-graduate degree from a recognised university in arts/ humanities
  • Six or more years of practice in any art form, preferably in the performing arts. Experience in managing programmes in the arts/ humanities in India will be an added advantage.
  • Conversant with current debates in the arts and humanities broadly, and specifically in the area of arts practice in India 
  • An interest in urban studies and city focused arts and culture projects 
  • Ability to understand and implement financial plans including budgets
  • Ability to network and represent the organisation at different forums
  • Excellent writing and public communication abilities in English
  • Fluency in one or more Indian languages other than English. Knowledge of Kannada would be an added advantage. 
  • Empathy, criticality, patience, determination, and a sense of curiosity in the arts

Location: Bangalore. This position entails considerable travel across India.

Remuneration: Rs 7 lakh to 8.5 lakh per annum, depending on experience and skill

Term: Five years, on a contractual basis
