THE IFA ARCHIVE

India Foundation for the Arts (IFA) is an independent, nationwide, not-for-profit organisation that makes grants and implements projects across research, practice and education in the arts and culture across India. IFA started making grants and implementing projects in 1995, and has continued its work over 26 years. IFA has supported almost 685 arts projects, disbursing over Rs 32 crore, across the country. 

We are creating an archive of the diverse work of our grantees, and other material that emerged from our grants, projects and its associated processes, covering over 26 years of IFA. This material, a vast collection of documents, photographs, media reports, audio, and video recordings, need to be organised, categorised and arranged for further processing, or long-term storage. Once processed, both data and the files will become publicly accessible online and offline.

We seek a Junior Project Associate to work with the IFA Archive team.

JUNIOR PROJECT ASSOCIATE POSITION

  1. Responsibilities:
    You will primarily be responsible for verification and conversion of digitised material and upload to the online archive, working closely with the IFA Archivist and Associate Archivist. Your role will include:

  • Preparation of physical/analogue material for digitisation and digitise if required
  • Gathering and arranging material to upload in the online archive
  • Collate annotations and metadata about the process of digitisation
  • Update metadata sheets as and when required.
  • Upload data and digitised files into the online archive
  • Coordinate with the Grantees/PI/PC requesting permission or more details about their projects/grants
  • Assist the team with the maintenance of the archive
  • Help the Archivist in calculating work-done/work-due/work-possible and the deadlines for planning and providing feedback
  • Any other work as required for the archive
  1. Eligibility:

  • Bachelor's degree in Arts/Humanities/Social Sciences
  • Degree/Diploma in Library and Information Sciences/Archival Studies/Museology, or related subjects
  • Or Experience of working with institutional archives will be desirable

Additionally, we will be looking for the skills mentioned below:

  • Experience in using MS Excel, MS Access and/or any kind of database software
  • Experience of handling fragile documents/material for digitisation
  • Hands-on knowledge of archival digitisation of textual/audio/video material
  • Knowledge about different file formats for audio, video and documents and conversion tools
  • Attention to detail and organisational skills
  1. Remuneration:
    Remuneration for the position of the Junior Project Associate will be Rs 25,000 per month, subject to statutory deductions.

LOCATION AND TERM

  • The position is in-house, full-time and based in Bangalore.
  • The appointment will be on an annual contractual basis, with possibilities of renewal.
