India Foundation for the Arts (IFA) is an independent, nationwide, not-for-profit organisation that makes grants and implements projects across research, practice and education in the arts and culture across India, since 1995. We believe that the arts and culture are essential to our individual and community lives, and for a more equitable and just world. The IFA Archive is the repository of all materials that have resulted from the projects supported and implemented by IFA. It was launched in October 2018 at www.theifaarchive.org

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Role:
  • In partnership with the ED, prepare multi-year strategic and implementation plans
  • In partnership with the ED, prepare and review policies and guidelines
Administrative Role:
  • Supervise acquisition, retrieval, organisation and cataloging of materials including text, visual and audio material for the archive from the projects supported and implemented by IFA
  • Supervise digitisation of analogue material and metadata creation as well as archiving existing material in digital format
  • Supervise the maintenance and further development of the physical archive and online archive
  • Liaison with software developers to further develop the content management system
  • Liaison with vendors for various archive related needs
  • Organise public programmes at the IFA Archive
  • Participate in fundraising and donor management for the IFA Archive including writing periodic reports
  • Supervise staff, interns, and volunteers working at the IFA Archive
  • Work with IFA staff across departments to ensure smooth functioning of the archive
Additional Role:
  • As part of the IFA team, contribute through ideas and take responsibility for additional work as and when required
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
  • Thorough knowledge of administration and management of an archive including budgeting
  • In-depth understanding and hands-on experience with various modules of archival work such as material acquisition, cataloging, digitisation, preservation and copyright issues
  • Experience in handling CMS systems and an understanding of the software issues
  • Good writing, organisational and interpersonal skills, and attention to detail
  • Demonstrate initiative and ability to work independently as well as multi task
ELIGIBILITY:
  • Degree in Arts/Humanities/Social Sciences
  • Preference will be given to degree in Digital Humanities/Library and Information Science/Archive Studies/Museology or related subjects
  • 8-10 years of experience of working with institutional archives, in which at least 4 years of leading an archive will be preferred
  • An understanding of the arts in India is desirable
LOCATION: This is a full-time position based in Bangalore. This position may require some travel within India post the pandemic.

REMUNERATION: Between Rs 6 to Rs 7 lakh per annum depending on the candidate’s skills and relevant work experience.
