25x25
Marking 25 Years of Grantmaking at IFA

25 grants of Rs 25,000/- each
Theme: 25 Years of the Internet in India

Deadline Extended: Wednesday, September 09, 2020 | 12:00 PM IST

This year marks 25 years of grantmaking at IFA. It was serendipitous for us to discover that the internet in India is also 25 years old. In an unprecedented year as this one, when due to the pandemic and physical distancing, we are confined to the worlds within the internet, we want to mark the two anniversaries with a special initiative titled 25x25 – which will support 25 projects with a grant of Rs 25,000/- each

We invite proposals for artistic explorations, imaginations and interpretations, based on the theme: 25 years of the internet in India. In these 25 years, the internet has impacted every aspect of our lives – emotional, social, economic, political and cultural. It has helped artistic and cultural spaces to evolve over the years and connected people across languages and borders. On the one hand, the internet is a congregational space for the multitudes, often to forge radical transformations but on the other, it is a channel for fake news, propaganda and mass deception. It is also an apparatus for surveillance. The history of the internet, its presence, impact, and future possibilities are some of the areas that arts and cultural practitioners could explore through their work in this grant.

These could be artistic projects which are online, or offline that can be represented online. All projects will be presented online by IFA (either live or pre-recorded) on a specific date in January/February 2021.

Budget: Rs 25,000/-

The maximum duration of a project: 3 months between October 15, 2020, and January 15, 2021 (with no extension).

Who can apply:

  • Individual arts and cultural practitioners working within or across any form of artistic practice including performing arts, visual, new media and digital arts, and literature. A single applicant could represent collaborative work between individual artists or from collectives and organisations. Kindly note that organisations are not eligible to apply.
  • Indian nationals or persons living in India for more than five consecutive years.

How to apply:

Send us a proposal in any Indian language, including English, with the following:

  • Project description (between 800 and 1000 words) with motivation, process and outcome.
  • Timeline and budget.
  • A recent biodata including links to your work samples/portfolio. Please ensure that all supporting material is sent as links and not as attachments.

Deadline: Wednesday, September 09, 2020 | 12:00 PM IST

Selection Process:

Proposals will be evaluated by the IFA team. Shortlisted applicants must be available for an online discussion with IFA staff. The announcement of all 25 grants will be made on September 21, 2020, which is IFA's birthday. The decision by IFA on the grants will be final.
