Shilpika Bordoloi's Majuli | February 21, 25 & March 05, 2014 | Delhi, Bangalore & Guwahati

Majuli is an island on the Brahmaputra river in Assam. Inspired by the beauty of the island and the social, cultural, spiritual life of the people living there, Shilpika Bordoloi created Majuli, the performance, using the movement vocabulary of dance and theatre.

About Shilpika Bordoloi
Shilpika is a movement artist with over fifteen years of experience in dance. She is trained in classical Manipuri, Bharatanatyam, theatre movement and Tai-Ji-Quan, a martial art. She has had the privilege of training under renowned teachers—Padmashree Darshana Zhaveri, Padmashree Leela Samson, Rashid Ansari and Rathindra Sinha.
Her choreographic solo pieces and group productions have been staged extensively in India and she has travelled to China, Japan, Russia, Italy and Switzerland for performances.

Shilpika is currently working on a multi-media project titled, Katha Yatra, where she is researching into cultural practices along the Brahmaputra river. She is also visiting faculty at the National School of Drama (NSD).

About the Brahmaputra Cultural Foundation
The Brahmaputra Cultural Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to preserve and promote the cultural traditions of Northeast India and showcase best practices in the fields of performing and visual arts from all over the world. The Foundation aims to strike a balance between the flows of traditional and modern knowledge. Through research-based projects, the Foundation aims to address the social, cultural and developmental conflicts in the states of Northeast India.
