Deb Kamal Ganguly
Grant Period: Four months
Deb Kamal Ganguly is an alumnus of the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata and an independent filmmaker, video artist, media practitioner and researcher. His work has been shown in competitive sections of various national and international festivals. He has received several awards, including the Tiger Award for Shorts at Rotterdam. This grant will enable Debkamal to excavate email archives in an attempt to trace human journeys through its digital footprints over the years.
Emails are considered to be one of the oldest and most stable platforms of digital communication. Over the years our communications by email have shifted and transformed. Debkamal will dip into his own email archive of 22 years to understand how his reality has changed and shifted through this time, as experienced and seen through the digital reality of the emails. Along with that, few other longtime associates of his would also be requested to look at their own email archives, and will then be interviewed to understand their findings and reflections. The outcome will be a creative essay put together by culling insights from all the collected materials, using excerpts of emails, images and graphic attachments.
The Grantee’s deliverables to IFA along with the final report will be audio and video recordings of the interviews and the creative essay.
This grant is made possible under the special initiative 25x25, with support from lead donor Kshirsagar-Apte Foundation, and philanthropy partners, Titan Company Limited, Priya Paul, and Sethu Vaidyanathan.
