India Foundation for the Arts invites you to Somewhere—an interactive fiction by Dhruv Jani on Thursday, March 28, 2019 from 05:00 PM to 08:00 PM at Voxelscapes, Bangalore.

Somewhere—penned and devised by Dhruv Jani is a text driven, first person exploration game, set in a mythical city of storytellers called Kayamgadh in colonial India.

This interactive fiction is a collection of stories about the search for a city that does not exist. For the reader/player to be able to navigate these stories, they have to turn into other people. With this shift in identities, each character is a figment of another's imagination, and then becomes a part of an altogether different story.

Somewhere is currently being developed for Windows, Linux and Mac.

For this play session Dhruv will be showcasing three games from the Somewhere universe:

A Museum of Dubious Splendors, a storybook from the world of Somewhere is a quiet game about prosaic objects, spurious histories, the nature of an archive and forms of recollection.

In the Pause between the Ringing is a rumination about completion, territorial margins and the haunting of bodies and memories that are translated across borders. It is an adaption of an unpublished story written by Mir Umar Hassan for the editor of the Malwa Chronicle in the July of 1958.

An Indivisible Margin of Error is a pair of short interactive vignettes that seeks to explore the construction of space by charting a narrative across various topological and temporal scales.

Dhruv Jani is a game designer, who has worked as a researcher on Taj Ganj, Agra, a report for the Directorate of Tourism, Uttar Pradesh at the National Institute of Design. He was a participant at Of Games: Theatre in Code at Khoj International Artists' Association, New Delhi and a co-founder of the collaborative Studio Oleomingus. His work has been featured in gaming webzines such as Rock Paper Shotgun, Intel IQ, PC Gamerand Kill Screen.
