We are delighted that two plays supported by IFA will be performed as part of the 25th Kankavli Natyautsav, a theatre festival in Kankavli, Maharashtra. F-1/105 directed by Mohit Takalkar will be showcased on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 09:30 PM and Akshayambara directed by Sharanya Ramprakash, will open on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 09:30 PM.
F-1/105 presents a story of a neighbourhood, and a couple with their plan to re-do the interior of their apartment, by painting it green. As the story unfolds, the simple job of colouring, turns into a dramatic 'event'; unsettling the couple's private space, disturbing the emotional world of the Painter from an unspecific place called 'North', and rippling through the neighbourhood.
Akshayambara explores the position of women and streevesha (female impersonation) within the male-dominated practice of Yakshagana. Drawing from research and personal experience, the performance imagines a reversal of roles in the popular Yakshagana plot of ‘Draupadi Vastrapaharana’, while seeking to explore the conflicts around tradition, gender, power, and morality inherent in the form.
F-1/105 and Akshayambara were made possible by grants from India Foundation for the Arts, under its Arts Practice programme. Akshayambara received part support from Voltas Limited.
The performances of Akshayambara and F1/105 at Kankavli Natyutsav 2017 are made possible with support from India Foundation for the Arts and Titan Company Limited.
Passes for the duration of the festival (February 13 - February 18) are priced at Rs 1000 and Rs 600. Tickets for individual shows can be purchased for Rs 250.
