We are delighted to bring you an evening of soulful music, poetry and conversations, as a fundraiser in support of India Foundation for the Arts (IFA). By attending this event, you will also be contributing towards securing a future for the arts in the country. Your donations through Donor Passes will help IFA to continue grantmaking, ensuring that funds are made available to many more artists across our programmes.

Shubha Mudgal and Aneesh Pradhan (with Sudhir Nayak, Vighnesh Kamath, Pooja Vazirani and Shantanu Herlekar) present a selection of songs written by the 15th-century saint-poet Kabir. A weaver by profession, Kabir's dohas ('couplets') and padas are rife with profound philosophical truths as well as imaginative metaphors. These are lyrically rendered in a unique blend called sadhukaddi bhasha or panchamel khichdi. In this world of ulatbasi ('upside down poems'), trees grow with their roots reaching for the skies, fish bloom on branches instead of leaves or fruits, and the lion shepherds grazing cows. Click here for the verses that will be performed tomorrow with transliteration and translation by Ragini Pasricha.

Born into a musically dedicated family, Shubha Mudgal has been trained by some of the finest musicians in the country. Renowned all over the country as an accomplished performer, she has also won recognition as a composer. Shubha Mudgal is celebrated for experimenting with her music and her interpretation of the Khayal and Thumri. She is also a recipient of numerous awards, including the Padma Shri.

You just can’t miss this. The streaming of the pre-recorded concert of 60 minutes will be followed by a live interactive conversation of 30 minutes with Shubha Mudgal and Aneesh Pradhan led by Arundhati Ghosh, Executive Director, IFA.
