Join us for an evening of presentations with our grantees and artists, Sumona Chakravarty from theHamdasti Collective, Kolkata, and Shaunak Mahbubani and Rahul Gudipudi from the Klatsch Collective, Bangalore, as they take us through their artistic journeys with communities. The projects, from Bengal and Karnataka respectively, bring together distinct contexts to enable an insightful session on their creative pursuits and community participation, in their local contexts.

Sumona, who heads the Hamdasti collective, will present on their project, Chitpur Local. The project, through diverse activities — from pop-up libraries, examining the idea of 'hawked' stories and archives, to presentations on Chitpur's heritage art forms like printing, jatra and jewellery making — has attempted to create a cultural platform for Chitpur, in the current milieu of Kolkata.

Shaunak and Rahul, of the Klatsch Collective, will present on their project Myself Mohan 1909. The project involved a series of multi-disciplinary artistic interventions in the 100-year old Mohan building, in Chikpet, one of the busiest shopping areas of Bangalore. Through engagements with the multi-layered narratives of the space, Myself Mohan 1909 brought alive the biographical journey of the Mohan building.

Sumona received a grant from IFA, under its Arts Practice programme.

The Klatsch Collective received a grant as part of Project 560, 2015, an IFA initiative, partnered by Citi India.

Grant showcases of India Foundation for the Arts in Mumbai are supported by the Bajaj Group.
