(This session will be held in Kannada)

Thursday, December 22, 2022 | 06:30 PM – 07:30 PM IST | Zoom and Facebook Live

How does one learn about history through artistic techniques? What kind of intricacies come out when you reimagine the past?

Join us to listen to Chandrahas Y Jalihal talk about his project that made interventions in history, geography and the local legends that existed during the Bahmani Sultanate, among students of Government Higher Primary School, Kalaburagi. In the course of the project, the students had an opportunity to observe and study the methods and materials used by the artisans of the Bahmani times through workshops for calligraphy, drawing, mural making, storytelling, illustration, and creative writing. The students created intricate woodcut prints that allowed them to connect with aspects like paintings, architecture and administration of the Bahmani Sultanate, which then formed an art book.

Chandrahas will be in conversation with Krishnamurthy TN, Senior Programme Officer: Arts Education at IFA, about his experience with the project.

Chandrahas Y Jalihal is a practising artist with more than two decades of teaching experience in visual arts at MMK College of Fine Arts, Kalaburagi. He has a post-graduate diploma in printmaking from Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati University, Shantiniketan.

Chandrahas received a grant from IFA in 2018-19 under the Arts Education programme, made possible with support from Citi India and Infosys Foundation.

This session is organised as part of the Project Showcase @ IFA, a series of online presentations to showcase, discuss and engage audiences with the diverse projects we support and implement across programmes.
