How can our collective past be reconstructed on the basis of material remains?

Attend a public talk by prehistoric archaeologist Akash Srinivas, which will explore the role and contributions of skeletal remains to our growing understanding of ancient populations and help us reconstruct past human lifeways and behaviours. It will also detail how the study of archaeology and skeletal records can help with our ongoing effort to understand the history of health, medicine and diseases.

About the SL Bhatia History of Medicine Museum, Library and Archives

The museum, located in St John’s Research Institute,  is named after Major General Sohan Lal Bhatia (1891-1982), the first Emeritus Professor of the Department of the History of Medicine in St John's Medical College. It brings alive the significant phases of the journey of medicine through a collection of medical instruments, models, photographs, paintings, and rare medical books. To know more about the museum, visit: https://sjri.res.in/health/resources

For the implementation of a Foundation Project by IFA, Akash is working on a podcast series drawing on the resources available in the museum, library and archives, that will cover a variety of themes such as the origins and evidence of ancient surgery and medical practices, women and medicine, traditional medicine, amongst others. This public talk is one of the outcomes for the project.

The event is open to all. To attend, please RSVP to Radhika Hegde: radhika.h@sjri.res.in
