IFA grantee Vikram Iyengar showcases Across, Not Over, a performance that engages with the Kathak dance form in an essentially material way. The work fragments the Kathak body and re-presents it in newly-assembled poetics. It challenges the verticality of the form and the hierarchy of the feet. The exploration questions and re-frames notions of classicism and beauty by presenting the dancing body as an image of itself. The piece is choreographed by Preethi Athreya, also an IFA grantee.

This event is brought to you in partnership with Junoon, Mumbai.

IFA supported Vikram Iyengar, a Kathak dancer, for a collaboration with Preethi Athreya, a contemporary dancer. Posing questions for both these artists, the process pushed the classical dancer to open himself up to contemporary approaches of performance-making, and asking the contemporary choreographer to work with and from the sensibilities of a classical idiom.

Vikram Iyengar received a grant for this project under IFA's Arts Practice Programme.
