Job Opening at IFA: Communications Officer | Deadline: September 13, 2026

India Foundation for the Arts (IFA) invites applications for the position of Communications Officer. This role reports to Lead: Communications and Outreach.
IFA is an independent, nationwide, not-for-profit organisation that makes grants and implements projects across research, practice and education in the arts and culture across India, since 1995. So far, we have implemented 950+ projects across our programmes. We believe that the arts and culture are essential to our individual and community lives, and for a more equitable and just world. We support and implement critical work that challenges dominant narratives and speaks truth to power. We focus on journeys that seek unheard voices and untold stories, which are often ignored or erased.
JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a Communications Officer who will be responsible for all communication tasks related to the organisation, is excited about creating engaging communication to spread the word about the work IFA does, someone who can garner support for the arts through evocative writing and strategic communication plans, and can drive Social Media outreach. The selected candidate will be part of the Communications and Outreach team and will report to Lead: Communications and Outreach.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Writing
- Write and edit crisp, concise, and accessible communication material, aimed at internal and external audiences, for print, social media, website, and e-mailers, and ensure that institutional documents are up-to-date. This would include but isn’t limited to Requests for Proposals, Project Showcases, Date with the Archive, Plans and Quarterly Reviews, press notes, Brochures, Festival and Conference documents, Annual Reports, Calendars, Newsletters, Website.
- Work closely with other members of the communications team to co-produce other material such as merchandise.
- Support in creating fundraising communication with the team.
Social Media
- Manage all IFA social media platforms: Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and YouTube
- Copywriting for content on the above-mentioned social media platforms.
- Maintain the in-house social media content calendar.
- Support the Programme and Fundraising team in creating social media collaterals.
Additionally, you will be responsible for:
- Managing the contactus@indiaifa.org email ID.
- Managing the IFA Wikipedia web page.
Conceptualising and Strategising Campaigns
- Hold together and implement the communications strategy of IFA, in partnership with the other members of the Communications and Outreach team.
- Conceptualise and be enthusiastic about driving communication campaigns programmes and fundraising at IFA to help raise visibility about the organisation.
- Liaise with different teams to collect information to develop various communication materials.
- Help build audiences for various events: showcases of projects supported by IFA, fundraisers and other outreach initiatives.
Website
- Be aware of developments across the organisation and manage, review and update content for the website.
- Coordinate the production and deployment of the new IFA website.
Institutional Support
- This role works closely with staff across departments and would be expected to contribute to institutional processes from time to time.
- Participate and support IFA outreach and events such as conferences, festivals, open houses, roundtable discussions, showcases, and more.
- The successful candidate may be expected to take on wider institutional responsibilities.
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
- Excellent writing skills in English. Fluency in other Indian languages is desirable.
- Excellent editing, proofreading, time-management, and multi-tasking skills.
- A detail-oriented outlook and the ability to produce high-quality work.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms). Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (especially Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Lightroom) is desirable but not mandatory.
- The ability to manage, negotiate, coordinate with, and liaise between various staff members to gather information for multiple communication materials within tight deadlines.
- The ability and experience to develop and generate original concepts, content and writing copy for communication material that is consistent and of high quality across media. This would include its timely development, planning, delivery, and production, in partnership with the communications team.
- A robust understanding of the social media landscape, strategies and techniques, and the ability to manage and drive communication across such platforms.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Graduate (preferably Master’s Degree or equivalent experience) in social sciences/arts/communications/
journalism/publishing/ development or other relevant fields. - 5-6 years of work experience in similar roles with arts organisations/non-profits/
foundations/museums/academia. - Experience in providing communication support for events, festivals, conferences, meetings, campaigns.
- Demonstrated experience of planning and managing social media channels and a good understanding of digital communications best practices.
LOCATION
This is a full-time position based out of Bangalore.
REMUNERATION
Between 9.5 and 10 lakh per annum depending on the candidate’s skills and relevant work experience. The successful candidate will be appointed for five years on a contractual basis.
