Curated Walks: Project 560, 2015
Project 560, 2015 is partnered by Citi India
For the first time ever, India Foundation for the Arts (IFA) will conduct curated walks in Bangalore city, as part of Project 560, 2015. This series of curated walks will start from August 2015 and continue up to March 2016.
Bangalore has always been a cosmopolitan city which has embraced diverse artistic expressions. Its rich tapestry of music, dance, theatre, visual arts, photography and filmmaking practicesacross time periods have deeply influenced and enriched the city’s cultural fabric. Home to scores of artists, Bangalore has an artistic exuberance that continues to be nurtured by its arts spaces, institutions and even entire neighbourhoods. There are stories galore, waiting to be shared about Bangalore and the arts.
Project 560, 2015aims to create a space for these stories to be told through curated walks, conducted by the citizens, for the citizens. These will essentially be Arts Walks that explore broad themes like Bangalore’s artistic traditions/ artistic practices; artist biographies revolving around an artist’s life and works; neighbourhoods that have nurtured the arts; arts spaces such as music halls, theatres, cinemas halls, film studios; arts institutions; public sculptures and installations; architecture, etc.
“While artist projects will look at re-imagining spaces, curated walks will give us glimpses into the history of spaces in Bangalore. IFA will also engage with citizens of Bangalore to do these walks. I think a walk helps you to feel the pulse of the city. The previous time when artists performed in different locations in the city, we had among our audience, many old residents of Bangalore, who shared fascinating stories and anecdotes about the city with us. We wanted to bring all of that into the fold of our project.” - Sumana Chandrashekar, Programme Executive.
