IFA@Bangalore: Into the Scrub: After Jamal Ara by Moomal | Archives at NCBS
India Foundation for the Arts (IFA) and Archives at NCBS invite you to the exhibition Into the Scrub: After Jamal Ara, created by Moomal as part of her project under the Archives and Museums programme.
Borrowing its title from one of Jamal Ara’s notes, Into the Scrub is an exhibition that tinkers with the surroundings of life sciences and archives. Moomal weaves together observational drawings, field recordings, letters, and lab notes that attend to conditions of forgetfulness and discovery in the practice of exploring biological worlds. Things studied here get labelled, measured and named, yet life slips out of these forms of containment. Crossing over macroscopic and microscopic scales, the exhibition thinks through acts of organising life.

Archives at NCBS, Bangalore
The Exhibition space is located within the campus of National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS). For ease of access, it is advised to carry a digital copy of your Aadhaar to secure your visitors pass.
Moomal (b. Ajmer, India) is a weaver based in Delhi. She studied in Bangalore and worked in Mumbai before she joined Raqs Media Collective, crafting thresholds and intensities. Her loom is an epistemic device taking her between dormant histories, art of weaving and myriad archives. She traces how the conditions of the thinkable are reconfigured when distant worlds are made proximate through forms of suturing and telling.
Archives at NCBS is a public centre for the History of Science in Contemporary India (HOSCI). Over 400,000 processed objects across 100+ collections are available in various forms, ranging from paper-based manuscripts to negatives, photographs, books, fine art, audio recordings, scientific equipment, letters, and field and lab notes.
This exhibition by Moomal is an outcome of a Foundation Project implemented by India Foundation for the Arts (IFA) under its Archives and Museums programme in collaboration with Archives at NCBS. The Archives and Museum programme at IFA is supported by Tata Trusts.
