Children As Citizens: Project Showcase@IFA with Kiddy Kingdom Academy Samiti | July 30, 2025

How does a child see their city? How do they call it theirs? How can they engage with it?
The Children As Citizens project with Kiddy Kingdom Academy Samiti in Lucknow, under the National Schools category of the Arts Education programme, unfolded as a vibrant exploration of how children can meaningfully engage with their environment and grow into active, aware citizens of their city. They are seen as active discoverers of knowledge by experiencing heritage and related issues in their own context and interactions with other urban residents. Guided by the interconnected themes of Child, City, and Citizen, the project encouraged students to reflect on their identity, understand their surroundings, and develop a sense of responsibility and belonging toward their community.
In a participatory process with the children, the project actively tried to bring the students’ lived experiences, thoughts, and imaginations into their school, with artists, historians and the community as resources.
Join us to listen to Akshita, Rahul and Lakshmi from the school, who will speak about their experiences, processes and takeaways from the project in creating contextual arts-integrated learning

Kiddy Kingdom Academy Samiti (KK Academy), Lucknow, is a state-recognised institution established in 1989 with five children. Today they accommodate over 200 students from different social strata.
Akshita is a budding educator with roots in ecology and a mind always open to learning. She learns from children as much as she teaches, in a hope to give back what she gathers along the way.
Rahul is a CA turned educator and a tinkerer who solves problems, be they of the mind, the material world, children, or teams. With an eye for numbers and a heart for learning, he is a jack of all trades.
Lakshmi Kaul is an educator who turned a garage into KK Academy, a thriving school for children, many of them first-generation learners. A champion of inclusive, low-cost education, she has redefined what it means to teach with purpose, passion, and persistence.
This session is organised as part of Project Showcase@IFA, a series of presentations to showcase, discuss and engage audiences with the diverse projects we support and implement across programmes.
This Foundation Project is implemented by India Foundation for the Arts (IFA) under the Arts Education programme, supported by Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company.
