Purvi Bharat Sharma

Arts Practice
2023-2024

Project Period: Eight months

This Foundation Project implemented by IFA under Explorations will explore the making of a site-specific installation that disrupts everyday life, to map the emotional registers of the quotidian. Purvi Bharat Sharma is the Coordinator for this project.

Purvi Bharat Sharma is a Baroda-based contemporary artist, who has done her BVA and MVA in Sculpture from MS University, Baroda. She received two Gold medals on completion of her MVA. She has participated in various group shows in Baroda, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and New Delhi. She was also selected for the prestigious Khoj Peers Share in 2023. Given her experience, she is best placed to be the Project Coordinator of this Foundation Project of IFA.

This project will explore the making of a site-specific installation, in/around the living space of the Project Coordinator. The site-specific installation will demand the public to manoeuvre around it, physically, thus affecting everyday life through the immersive aspects of the installation artform. The Project Coordinator will seek to obtain the necessary permissions to actualise the project. The project will aggregate the reactions of the people who would have to manoeuvre around the installation, as a part of their everyday lives, as a way of understanding their perceptions of it, including emotional responses to spaces and places that become part of routine, through an act of disruption.

The outcome of the project will be a site-specific installation. The Project Coordinator’s deliverables to IFA with the final report will be photographic documentation of the installation and the artistic process images.

This project suitably addresses the framework of IFA’s Arts Practice programme in the manner in which it attempts to foreground high art in bourgeois everyday life, as a way to reflect on the quotidian, through a disruption, as a gesture to slow down.

IFA will ensure that the implementation of this project happens in a timely manner and funds expended are accounted for. IFA will also review the progress of the project at midterm by convening an online gathering of artists coordinating Explorations projects. After the project is finished and all deliverables are submitted, IFA will put together a Final Evaluation to share with Trustees.

This project is made possible with support from Sony Pictures Entertainment Fund.
