‘Sandooka’ - The Living Museum of Kodava Culture is Now Live
Announcing the launch of the virtual museum Sandooka - The Living Museum of Kodava Culture, an interactive online space for the rich and thriving heritage of the Kodavas of Kodagu, Karnataka. It is a repository of the multidimensional cultural narratives of the region and its people and the manner in which these have evolved over time. Sandooka (Chandooka in Kodava language), means treasure chest–a familiar item found in most homes–symbolising the collection and safeguarding of materials and memories close to the heart.
Over the last two years, the museum has been brought together through meticulous field research along with diverse material contributed by the Kodava community that brings alive the integral experience of the culture. The stories from the community, put together by a Research, Curation and Design team, under the guidance of an esteemed Advisory Group and Jury, are curated around nine categories such as Architecture, Art & Craft, Clothes & Jewellery, Community Histories, Cuisine, Customs & Rituals, Festivals, Landscape, Literature & Folklore.
We welcome the visitors to explore these living traditions, and the social practices of the Kodavas through audio, video and text, the multitude of stories on this dynamic and evolving platform here: sandookamuseum.org
Sandooka - The Living Museum of Kodava Culture is made possible with support from Recaero India Pvt Ltd and Anuraadh, and managed by India Foundation for the Arts (IFA).
