Call for Images | An Upcoming Publication on the Kasuti embroidery tradition of Karnataka | Submit by March 15, 2021

We invite archival photos/paintings/family portraits of people wearing a Kasuti saree where the embroidery is visible to be used in a publication on the embroidery tradition of Karnataka.

India Foundation for the Art (IFA) in collaboration with Craft Revival Trust (CRT) is working on a book on the Kasuti embroidery tradition of Karnataka, supported by Infosys Foundation. We invite you to share with us archival photos/paintings/family portraits for this publication where people can be noticeably seen wearing sarees embroidered with Kasuti - especially the nine-yard saree worn traditionally. 

Email mail@craftrevival.org with your archival photo, of decent resolution, with details of the photograph, along with your contact information by Monday, March 15, 2021.

If the photo shared by you is chosen by CRT, you will be contacted for more details, so please make sure you share your contact information in the email, including your name and phone number. Do note that your contribution will be considered a gift to be used only in the book and for its promotion. It will be duly acknowledged in the book. The copyright of the image(s) remains with you. 

This publication will be the third in the series of publications in the area of arts and crafts, supported by Infosys Foundation. The earlier ones were Embroidering Futures: Repurposing the Kantha and Painters, Poets, Performers: The Patuas of Bengal, both collaboration of IFA and Craft Revival Trust (CRT) lead by the scholar Ritu Sethi, who undertook the research.Both these books have reached across various arts, culture and educational institutes in India and abroad, and have received public applause and critical acclaim. Embroidering Futures: Repurposing the Kantha is now also available as a free digital downloadable copy on the IFA website here. Poets, Performers: The Patuas of Bengal is available for purchase on the IFA website.
