The Ghatam holds a unique, marginal and subversive place in Carnatic music.
Like the jester, it laughs both at itself and the universe.
Like the womxn, it makes space for itself.
Like the stream, it flows steadily to its destination.
Join us to hear the Ghatam sing in support of the arts.
The same show will be streamed twice:

We invite you to this unique Ghatam Ensemble. The clay pot is one of the most ubiquitous musical instruments across world cultures. Known as the ‘Ghatam’ in Carnatic music, the pot is today integral to South Indian classical music.
What happens when a team of Ghatam players come together to make music? What are the stories and the sounds that emerge from the modest clay pot? Much like a group of people relaxing around a hearth after the toil of a long day, the artists here come together to regale in rhythmic conversations laden with gentle whispers, sparkling banter, and profound meditations. Listen to this exclusive ghatam ensemble as the artists weave a tapestry of melody and rhythm on the ghatam.
This ensemble piece is composed and led by Sukanya Ramgopal, one of India’s most acclaimed ghatam players. She is accompanied by her students Giridhar Udupa, Ganesh Murthy, Sachin Deviprasad, Srinidhi R Koundinya, and Sumana Chandrashekar.
