IFA is a nationwide, not-for-profit, grantmaking organisation that supports practice, research and education in the arts and culture, in India. Set up as a Public Charitable Trust in 1993, IFA started making grants in 1995, and has continued its work over 24 years. Job Description:
The Arts Practice programme encourages practitioners working across artistic disciplines to question and critique existing norms through their practice. The programme seeks to foreground a culture where arts practice is constantly being shaped and articulated through experimentation and critical dialogue. The candidate will be required to develop and evaluate artistic proposals, oversee management of grants, build relevant collaborations and partnerships, organise outreach of programmes and showcase grant outcomes with special focus on non-metros.
Key Responsibilities:
- Disseminate programme information at regular intervals and respond to enquiries
- Develop project ideas, evaluate proposals, facilitate translation of proposals, if required
- Provide intellectual and creative support to project ideas of applicants
- Work closely with external evaluators
- Make grants and administer them
- Maintain regular contact with grantees, help them troubleshoot challenges, report on progress
- Prepare all grant related and other official reports and documents
- Ensure timely submission of deliverables and reports by grantees in compliance with institutional standards
- Explore collaborations with regional partners, organise outreach activities of IFA-supported work across the country
- Share responsibility with other programme staff to develop grantmaking policies and strategies, review of proposals and programmes, monitoring and evaluation of grants
- Work closely with other departments to ensure smooth functioning of institutional processes
- Participate in creation of institutional documents such as proposals and budgets
- Shoulder wider institutional responsibilities when required
Job Requirements:
Applicants must
- Have empathy, criticality, determination and sense of wonder in the arts
- Be mature professionals with eight or more years of experience of practice and research in any art form and/or managing programmes in the arts/ humanities in India
- Be conversant with current issues and debates in the areas of arts and humanities, and be able to engage with a wide variety of art forms in India
- Demonstrate ideational ability, critical outlook, potential for leadership, an understanding of finances and budgeting, and should be able to network and represent the organisation at different forums
- Have excellent writing and public communication abilities
- Be fluent in one or more Indian languages other than English
It is desirable that the Applicant has a:
- Post-graduate degree from a recognised university in arts/ humanities
- Special interest/work experience in cinema, new media and theatre
Position Location: Bangalore. This position entails considerable travel across India
Remuneration: Rs 7 Lakh to 8.5 Lakh per annum, depending on experience and skill
Term: Five years, on a contractual basis
