All India Radio Interviews | 2017-2018
Samvada Sarani
Radio continues to be a relevant and potent medium of mass communication especially in the interior and rural parts of India, even after the emergence of more glamorous media such as television.
Following our commitment to building wider and stronger networks for ‘Kali Kalisu’, IFA started discussions with the All India Radio (AIR), Dharwad for a series of interviews centred around Kali Kalisu. Our aim was to enable a wider and deeper reach for Kali Kalisu across the interior parts of Karnataka among a diverse range of stakeholders within various sectors including culture, school development and monitoring committees, school administrators, and local audiences. In addition, it was envisioned that listeners would also be able to broaden their horizon of knowledge in arts education.
The discussions with AIR Dharwad were very fruitful, thanks to the initiative of the Station Director. In July 2017, we signed an MoU with AIR Dharwad for the broadcast of 10 episodes which will include one curtain raiser at the beginning and a live phone-in programme at the end of the series. This weekly broadcast ran from AIR Dharwad and was relayed across the state.
The grantees featured in these interviews were chosen keeping in mind the diversity of the projects and the regions they come from. The eight episodes covered topics such as effective facilitation to promote NCF / KCF recommendations, engaging the community through local art forms and cultural practices, storytelling as a pedagogical tool, connecting neighbourhoods through visual arts, learning language arts, challenging social and political situations to build sustainable learning examples and so on.
Each episode ran for 20 minutes, from 07:15 to 07:35 AM every Thursday. The first interview was broadcast on July 20, 2017 and the series went on till September 27, 2017. The jingle for this series has been composed and sung by our grantee - musician Basavalingayya Hiremath. AIR Dharwad also aired the jingle 10-12 times in a week, at no additional cost.
