Grants to Artists

This initiative is an extension of our work with government schools under the Kali Kalisu project that aims to build collaborations between artists and the school, with the objectives to encourage artists to look beyond their own artistic practice and explore possibilities in arts education; create an opportunity for artists and teachers to become joint stakeholders in the school community; and enrich curriculum and classroom teaching through artistic interventions.

In the last three years, IFA has given 19 grants to artists for projects across the state. Projects have focussed on various art forms such as the visual arts, performing arts and literature. There has also been an emphasis on storybooks and audio and textual documentation, in order to develop a culture of reading by making the library a familiar and friendly space; imbibe and practise a culture of ‘repairing-reusing-recycling’ objects of everyday use; documentation, environmental concerns and re-introducing folk cultures to education.

Process:

We invite project proposals in the cycle of May-June and September-October every year from artists and government school teachers in Karnataka.
