We are delighted to invite you to a one-day workshop Paper Prototype Workshop to build Gadgets of the Future facilitated by Anupama Gowda and Pavan Kumar at VITM, Bangalore. Anupama and Pavan received a Museum Fellowship from IFA to work with the collection at the VITM, Bangalore.

This workshop aims to inspire children to build and design objects along new lines of thinking – no longer on the 'take, make and dispose' model, but rather, on the 're-use, restore and rejuvenate' model. Children are encouraged to come to the workshop with ideas for designing gadgets for use in the future (perhaps in 2025?). These ideas will then be taken to the drawing board where prototypes of the imagined objects will be created with paper. Thus the children will be introduced to the principles of responsible design, making and manufacturing, in ways that are both exciting and understandable. The workshop encourages creative thinking in children and will provide them with opportunities for inquiry and discovery. The workshop will culminate in a reflective session that will explore the ideas that will develop during the course of the day.

This workshop is the second in the series of events that will lead up to the Talking Devices Exhibition series which will open at VITM in February 2019.

Anupama Gowda trained in Arts and Management. She has been a recipient of the Charles Wallace India Trust Award in 2007, an ARThinkSouthAsia Fellow in 2012, and a recipient of the MIT Media Lab India Initiative under the 'Creative Learning' Track.

Pavan Kumar trained in Mechanical Engineering and is the Founder/CEO of Workbench Projects, a makerspace/FabLab in Bangalore. He was co-curator of Maker Faire Bengaluru, 2017, working extensively with fellow-makers, technologists and industry specialists.
