India Foundation for the Arts (IFA)
invites you to
An Octagon and a Square
A presentation by Ish Shehrawat (Ish S)
Followed by a discussion with John Xaviers
Thursday, February 23, 2023 | 06:30 PM-07:30 PM IST | Zoom and Facebook Live
How do we experience an invisible and ephemeral geometrical pattern created by intersecting waves of music? How can we think of sound as an element that makes immersive sculptures which are only experienced, and not seen? What is the role of technology in amplifying and mediating traditional music into an aural space of contemporary art?
Join us to listen to Ish Shehrawat talk about the IFA-supported project An Octagon and a Square which created an audio installation following research on Indian classical music and geometrical principles. The discussion will examine the intersection of music and technology, sound as an element of sculpture-making, and transience as an essential character of contemporary art.
Ish Shehrawat is a Delhi-based contemporary artist who has participated in the Yokohama Triennale 2020 curated by Raqs Media Collective.
John Xaviers is Programme Officer: Arts Practice programme at IFA.
Ish Shehrawat received a grant from India Foundation for the Arts, under the Arts Practice programme. It is made possible with support from Tata Trusts, with the corpus interest of an earlier seed grant.
This session is organised as part of the Project Showcase @ IFA, a series of online presentations to showcase, discuss and engage audiences with the diverse projects we support and implement across programmes.
