Newspaper, Narratives and Nostalgia: Project Showcase@IFA with Aishwarya Kirit | April 30, 2026

Can an evening English daily shape opinions, generate conversations and form discourse around heritage amongst the public and residents of a city? Can it also inspire a new trail of heritage walks?
Join us to listen to Aishwarya Kirit talk about how the Archives of Star of Mysore and its consistent reportage and articles around heritage inspired her to curate a series of heritage-walks in Mysore.
Aishwarya will be in conversation with Shobha Talengala and delve into the significance of Star of Mysore, rich public memory, and the role civil society possibly can play in understanding heritage and conservation.

Star of Mysore is a popular local English evening newspaper from Mysore and is the only subscribed eveninger in the country. Founded by late KB Ganapathy and the late CP Chinnappa in 1978, the paper has the distinction of not merely recording the history of the city for over 45 years now, but has given a voice to its local citizens.
Aishwarya Kirit is a museum professional, and is happiest researching and writing about history and culture. She currently works with Eka Archiving Services, New Delhi. She has worked with 1Shanthiroad Studio/Gallery, Bengaluru (2023-24), and DAG, New Delhi (2018-20), as well as led heritage walks in Bangalore and Mysore since 2022. She has also tried her hand at journalism and RJ-ing before she found her place amongst the antiquated statues.
Shobha Talengala is an art historian who shuttles between Delhi and Mysuru. She is interested in visual anthropology—particularly the performative and material cultures of southern India and Karnataka—and museum discourses around folk and tribal collections. She is currently working as a consultant for Deccan Heritage Foundation India on the collections of Jayalakshmi Vilas Mansion, Mysuru.
This session is organised as part of Project Showcase@IFA, a series of presentations to showcase, discuss and engage audiences with the diverse projects we support and implement across programmes.
Aishwarya Kirit is the Project Coordinator of the Foundation Project implemented by India Foundation for the Arts (IFA) under the Archives and Museums programme, in collaboration with Star of Mysore Archives, Mysore.
